Over the past few years, the world has really woken up to the plastic pollution crisis our planet faces, but we still have a way to go.
Every day, around 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our oceans and the beauty industry is one of the worst culprits. From mass-producing face wipes (which take over 100 years to biodegrade FYI) to the cheap and convenient plastic-packaged beauty products piled high in our bathroom cabinets – it’s hard to completely eradicate plastic from our every day routines.
The onus might be on governments and big businesses to make radical changes, but there are small things we can all do on a personal level to make a change.
As our lives have all been hugely disrupted by Covid-19 this year, the global pandemic has also forced a huge spike in single-use plastics; some necessary, like the millions of pieces of personal protective equipment required for the safety of front-line staff, and some not so – pocket-size hand sanitisers, disinfecting wipes, plastic shopping bags and online shopping packaging.
So this Plastic Free Beauty Day (17th June) why not invest in the beauty brands that are making strides in the war against plastic pollution – by using alternative, reusable materials.
In collaboration with We Are Paradoxx, KANKAN, Circla and Vanderohe, Plastic Free Beauty Day 2020 is supporting Plastic Oceans UK – a non-profit organisation dedicated to reducing the use of single-use plastics that end up in our oceans. Profits from the sales made by these plastic-free beauty brands on Plastic Free Beauty Day, June 17th, will be donated to Plastic Oceans UK.
